Lionsgate announced it would be producing a film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "Sunrise on the Reaping" before the book was even released.

Billy Ray, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of "Hunger Games" and AMC's iconic Nicole Kidman ad, has been tapped to write "Sunrise on the Reaping."

“Sunrise on the Reaping,” which is based on the 2025 novel of the same name, is set 24 years before the first “Hunger Games” movie. Because it centers on a young Haymitch, most fans assumed that Harrelson would not be involved with the film.
