Mr Ramesh later told India's DD News that he was trying to go look for Ajay. At the scene, Mr Sandhu spotted a security guard who seemed to have been injured in the impact.

Mr Ramesh had been sat in seat 11A, just metres away from his younger brother Ajaykumar Ramesh, who was killed in the devastating crash.

News outlets in Britain identified him as Mr. Ramesh, who is a British citizen. The New York Times has not been able to confirm that the man in the video is Mr. Ramesh.

Mr Ramesh's survival has been described as 'miraculous' by Prof Edwin Galea, director of the Fire Safety Engineering Group at the University of Greenwich in south-east London.
