Trump signs order to put IndyCar race on Washington DC’s National Mall
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to stage an IndyCar street race on and around Washington DC’s National Mall, turning one of the country’s most symbolically charged civic spaces into a temporary high speed circuit.
Trump directed the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday to designate a race route through Washington, D.C. and the National Mall for the purposes of conducting an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on Aug.
President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order establishing the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., paving the way for the first IndyCar street race in the nation’s capital.
“The Grand Prix is an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate our nation's proud racing pedigree, showcase the beauty of the National Mall, and generate millions in critical tourism revenue for the Capital,” a statement to NBC News said.
The snowballs were expected to start flying at 9 a.m. on Sunday on the North lawn of the Washington Monument near the intersection of 15th Street and Constitution Ave. But organizers decided to cancel the event due to sleet conditions.
