The jackpot for Saturday's Powerball drawing has jumped to $1.8 billion. However, the windfall would significantly shrink after taxes.
A Powerball ticket purchased at a Tri-Cities grocery store won $100,000 in the Sept. 27 drawing, lottery officials said. Because the player bought a Power Play add-on, the $50,000 prize turned into $100,000, a spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery said in an email.
The winner forgot to check her ticket until a few days after the drawing. That's when she learned she'd won a $1 million prize.
