Sports Notes: Here’s why a Modesto softball star chose to play in the SEC
Samantha Nichols explains why she committed to the University of Florida. The junior infielder is a four-star national recruit.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey believes the new strength of record component in the College Football Playoff rankings will benefit the SEC. Here's why.
At this point last year, it was +12. Vanderbilt has the SEC’s top-ranked offense, while the defense has been more middle-of-the-road (ninth in YPP), mostly by what Utah State did in garbage time and Alabama in the second half. The rest of the schedule will be tougher, but Clark Lea looks in good shape to improve on last year’s 7-6 record.
On Wednesday, another major SEC voice chimed in; Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops, whose Wildcats prepare to face Texas in Week 8. “He’s one of those guys that can make all the throws in rhythm and on time, or buying time because he’s a good athlete,” Stoops said. “He throws very good on the run.”

CBS Sports analysts Rick Neuheisel and Brian Jones both see an upset happening in the Week 8 SEC slate on Saturday.
