Cyber security officials are warning email users against a ransomware scheme. The ransomware-as-a-service software called Medusa has been used to conduct ransomware attacks since 2021 via phishing methods. Falling victim to a phishing scam can result in financial theft.

Federal authorities have issued an advisory warning people of Medusa ransomware that has breached the data of more than 300 people since February.

The agencies warn Gmail and Outlook users to be on the lookout for harmful emails containing ransomware— a kind of malicious software that prevents you from accessing your computer files, systems, or networks and demands you pay a ransom for their return.
