It’s no secret that Boston Red Sox designated hitter and former third baseman Rafael Devers is off to a slow start. Amid the offseason controversy over the addition of Alex Bregman to play the hot corner and Devers being forced into a DH role, the lifelong Red Sox has not seemed too pleased with his organization.

The Red Sox slugger has struck out a record 15 times in his first five games. The good news is the root of Devers’s slump seems to be easily fixable.

The season-opening slump comes on the heels of Devers initially saying he would not move off third base in spring training, and then eventually accepting a full-time DH role. The Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, a far superior defender, near the start of the spring. Adding Bregman and moving Devers to DH improved Boston's offense and defense.
