Boston’s new first baseman isn’t in Monday’s Red Sox lineup, which has a newly returned player in the leadoff spot.
Lowe gives manager Alex Cora additional options with his lineup. A lefthanded hitter, Lowe will see most of the action against righties at first. This season, Lowe has a .732 OPS against righties, far better than the .516 OPS against lefties.

The Boston Red Sox added an infielder who hits for power Monday when they signed free agent first baseman Nathaniel
Lowe was a Gold Glover and a Silver Slugger for his previous team before the Nats, the Texas Rangers. With the Nats, he’s regressed a bit, slashing .216/.292/.373/.665 with 16 home runs and 17 doubles. While it seems like his hitting is down, it looked like he was beginning to figure it out, hitting a grand slam in his last game with Washington.
