McDonald's promised not to add surcharges for items that include eggs amid a nationwide surcharge that has led some other restaurants to charge more.

Denny’s, the popular American diner chain, has reportedly joined a growing number of restaurants responding to the nationwide egg shortage by adding a temporary surcharge to its egg-based meals at some locations.

Management at Denny's locations in Clive and Davenport confirmed to the Register on Tuesday that their establishment had implemented a $0.50 surcharge on every plate a customer orders that contains eggs. They didn't say how long the surcharge will remain in effect.
