Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the US Open mixed doubles event after struggling with illness and retiring from his Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz after just five games on Monday.

Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP Cincinnati Open title and earned himself even more respect for his classy response to defending champion Jannik Sinner retiring due to illness during the first set.

The new mixed doubles event, which will be played over two days and feature short sets, an array of singles stars and a $1 million prize, begins at 11 a.m. Aug. 19.
