Law enforcement and prosecutors are geared up for scammers who are expected to exploit relief for victims of the Palisades and Eaton fires.

California passed a set of bills to expedite LA wildfire recovery funds as part of an extended special session called by Gov. Gavin Newsom in response to Palisades and Eaton fires.

California will spend $2.5 billion to help the Los Angeles area recover from recent deadly wildfires under a relief package signed Thursday by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. Newsom signed the laws after the state Legislature approved them with bipartisan support earlier in the day.

President Trump landed in Los Angeles Friday afternoon to tour damage from the devastating Palisades Fire, one of two deadly wildfires fires this month, greeting Gov. Gavin Newsom who was waiting at the bottom of the steps to Air Force One.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch effective from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Monday for areas in or near burn scars created by the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hughes Fire and Bridge Fire, the latter blaze of which burned 56,000 acres last fall.

With parts of Los Angeles County still smoldering from wildfires and new blazes flaring up, expected rainfall this weekend would seem like a welcome relief.
