A tornado in Pretoria has left a trail of destruction leading to the evacuation of some of the residents in the city.

Emergency services said roofs were blown off and trees uprooted when the storm ripped through the area on Tuesday night.

A tornado hit the North of Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon, causing severe building damage, with the extent of injuries and destruction still unclear.
