Bitter cold and snow are expected early next week to move into nearly all of Kansas, the National Weather Service predicts.

Much of the metro received between 2 and 4 inches as a winter storm pushed through the Kansas City area Wednesday, with some areas having less, according to a map of early snowfall totals. This map is based on local storm reports submitted by officials and the public to the National Weather Service.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Meteorologist Peyton Sanders says that a winter storm is on the way to Kansas Tuesday night and Wednesday. Before the storm arrives, areas of flurries and light snow will be possible Monday night and Tuesday morning. Any snow accumulation will likely remain under 1 inch.

It’s a snow day in Kansas City, and a winter storm is blanketing the metro with several inches of snowfall early Wednesday. In Kansas City’s Northland, just over 2 inches of snow had already fallen by 7 a.m. near Liberty, and the worst is yet to come.

NEXT TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY (SYSTEM #3): This system tracks northwest to southeast along the leading edge of an Arctic blast. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory at 9:49 a.m. on Wednesday in effect until 6 p.m. The advisory is for Atchison, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Platte, Clay, Ray, Carroll,

The first of three storm systems will affect the region starting Monday afternoon, bringing a chance of light snow showers. These light snow showers may continue overnight through Tuesday morning.
