Two days after Pete Carroll reached a long-term agreement to become the Raiders’ next head coach, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Carroll’s former quarterback in Seattle, Russell Wilson, is a “strong option” to fill Las Vegas’ void under center.

In the span of three days, the Las Vegas Raiders found their new general manager and new head coach. After hiring former Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive John Spytek on Wednesday, the Raiders tabbed former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll as their new lead man.

Wilson and Carroll—of course—spent 10 seasons together with the Seattle Seahawks from 2012 to '21, winning four NFC West titles, two NFC championships and Super Bowl XLVIII. There was reportedly some tension between the two down the stretch, and the QB was eventually traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport floated an idea for that veteran presence: Russell Wilson, the former quarterback for Carroll's Seahawks. Rapoport reported that the two have remained close and that Wilson is a strong candidate to sign with the Raiders.

The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in Russell Wilson for the 2024 season, hoping he could finish his career with the team. After an up-and-down year, many questions remain unanswered about Wilson's future.
