Shares have fallen for a second day in Asia after U.S. markets were closed to observe a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.

In Asia, South Korea’s Kospi added 0.6% to 2,418.80. But shares of Jeju Air Co. lost 8.8% after one of the company’s jets skidded off a runway, slammed into a concrete fence and burst into flames Sunday in South Korea as its landing gear failed to deploy. 179 people died in the crash.

European benchmarks are declining, while Asia derived some optimism from rising technology stocks on Wall Street. Benchmarks fell in early Tuesday trading in France, Germany and Britain. U.S. futures also declined.
