Air India Ltd. is looking to take Boeing Co. planes rejected by Chinese carriers, people familiar with the matter said, joining the ranks of Asian airlines vying to benefit from the trade war between Washington and Beijing.

A Boeing jet set to be delivered to Xiamen Airlines in China was returned to the U.S. amid a growing trade war between the two nations.

For now, Air India’s interests lie in getting more of the already-built Boeing 737 Max planes for Air India Express, its budget subsidiary.
