Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the minority leader, said a government shutdown would have been “10 or 20 times worse” than the Republican stopgap spending bill.

Sen. Schumer was called out by members of the Democratic Party as well as liberal media commentators after voting to avoid a government shutdown.

Schumer said he is the "best at winning Senate seats" amid questions about his leadership after he voted to advance a GOP measure to fund the government.

Schumer said that while the Continuing Resolution was "certainly bad," a shutdown "would be 15 or 20 times worse."

"I wasn't going to take this flak just for having a lot of fun," Schumer said on "The View," while Sunny Hostin told Schumer she thinks he "caved" with his vote.
