Khalil accused Columbia of laying the “groundwork for my abduction” and accused the Morningside Heights institution of suppressing “student dissent”

Columbia University students chained themselves to a gate to protest the detention of Mahmoud Khalil by ICE. They also demanded names of trustees who gave Khalil’s name to ICE.

In the op-ed dictated from ICE custody, Mahmoud Khalil said that “the situation is oddly reminiscent of when I fled the brutality of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.”
