Our Boggs Mountain Helitack Crew is going through Basic Helicopter Operations and Safety (BHOS) training this week, providing firefighters with basic knowledge and skills essential to our aerial firefighting operations. On Tuesday at the Calistoga Community Pool they focused on water egress training, vital to the safety of our personnel in case of an emergency. Check out this video of Ravendale Helitack Crew H553 training for a hover hookup! This maneuver is used when there is not enough room to safely get the helicopter, a Bell 407 HP, on the ground to pick up equipment. Crews practice this operation at their home base in Ravendale, CA to be prepared when out in the field fighting wildfires.
