Milton Friedman on the hidden costs of tariffs:“The harm which a tariff does is invisible. It’s spread widely. There are people who don’t have jobs because of the tariff, but they don’t know it—and there’s nobody who could organize them.”

High tariffs are a threat to not only the overall economy, but more damaging to the individual. Countries that keep the free trade "rules" are at an advantage. Countries that break them are at a disadvantage. Tariffs and subsidies do not gain jobs but create inefficiencies that destroy jobs and hurt workers. You can't cheat at free trade since tariffs and subsidies are their own penalty. | Milton Friedman
